Samsung Gravity 3 is the third device in the Gravity series for T-Mobile. Most features from the previous year’s model are kept intact including the GPS, 3G and the 2MP camera. Gravity 3 is a good alternative to the touch screen model Gravity T from Samsung. The texting phone comes at just $50 with a two year agreement with T-Mobile.
You can save up to 1000 contacts and in each entry you can save four numbers along with other details regarding the contact. The phone includes all the organizing features like calendar, world clock, task manager, alarm, calculator, converter, to-do list. Stop watch, timer and a memo book. Some advanced features for the texting phone are the RSS reader, voice dialing, Google Map and turn by turn TeleNav A GPS navigator. You also get stereo Bluetooth and IM. You can view web pages in either desktop or mobile mode on the web2go browser from T-Mobile. Online video streaming with 3G is good. YouTube video quality is decent and streams continuously except for a delay at the start.
The media player remains to be the same as in the previous models. You can edit create and edit playlists. It is possible to send MP3 files through text message, Bluetooth, email etc but at times, the file size might be too large to use it. Gallery sounds can be customized as your ringtones, message tones, alarm tone and you can even set it for a specific contact. The media player supports audio track formats like AAC, AAC+, MP3 etc.
The 2MP camera takes decent pictures possible at four resolutions including 320×240, 640×480, 1280×960 and 1600×1200. Setting options available are white balance, night mode, metering modes (Center weighted, Spot and Matrix) along with five color effects. You get a self timer option which takes snaps after 3 seconds. Panorama is also available using which it stitches the photos moving upright to down or from left to right. You also get Smile shot (take pictures once it detects a smile) and Mosaic that fills the four quadrants with different images.
Photo quality is not excellent but is definitely worth the 2MP. Video recording is possible which is recorded at 176×144 resolution which is also known as QCIF. You can choose the video length as normal or for MMS. You can choose to record videos with audio. Internal memory available on the phone is 70 MB while the external memory can be expanded up to 16 GB using the microSD memory card
Call quality is good with clear audio on both ends. Speaker phone is a good option while on calls as it sounds large and clear. There is some echo when using the speakerphone but it is not that bad to interrupt the speech. 3G speed is good as always in T-Mobile. Samsung Gravity 3 offers a battery life of 6 hours talk time and 16.7 days standby time.
